Michael Frayn discusses his varied literary career

Michael Frayn has had an incredibly prolific literary career, juggling successful jobs as a dramatist, novelist and translator.

Frayn is best known as the writer of the theatrical farce Noises Off (1982) and the dramas Copenhagen (1998) and Democracy (2003).His comic novels have also been critical and commercial successes, making him one of the few British writers who have succeeded in both drama and prose fiction.

Frayn’s latest novel, Skios (2012) is about a case of mistaken identity set on a Greek island. It experiments with the rules of stage farce by applying them to the novel. Skios is on the longlist for the Man Booker Prize in 2013.

Frayn talks to Gavin Esler about a writing career which began with his time as an award-winning journalist.
